Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient (API)
Lansoprazole
Proton Pump Inhibitor (PPI)
A Proton Pump Inhibitor (PPI) that reduces the amount of acid produced by the stomach. It is used to treat GERD, erosive esophagitis, and gastric/duodenal ulcers. Like other PPIs, it works by irreversible inhibition of the $H^{+}/K^{+}$-ATPase enzyme. Lansoprazole is characterized by rapid absorption and is often prepared in delayed-release capsules to protect it from stomach acid.
