A mucolytic agent used to treat respiratory diseases associated with thick mucus secretion. It works by reducing the viscosity of phlegm and increasing ciliary activity, facilitating mucus clearance from the respiratory tract. Ambroxol has also shown local anesthetic effects. It is commonly used for acute and chronic broncho-pulmonary diseases, often found in cough syrups and lozenges.
